The European Union has adopted its 19th sanctions package, which includes a ban on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports. This marks the first time the EU has imposed such a ban. Short-term contracts for LNG will end in six months, while long-term contracts are set to conclude by January 2027.

In addition to the LNG import ban, the sanctions package includes restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats, sanctions targeting banks in Kazakhstan and Belarus, and limitations on four Chinese oil firms. Furthermore, the package adds 117 vessels to the list of those in Russia"s shadow fleet, bringing the total to 558.

These developments come amid ongoing tensions between Russia and the West, as previously reported in related coverage.
