Nine killed, 10 wounded in tavern shooting in Bekkersdal, South Africa

At least nine people were killed and ten others were wounded in a shooting at a tavern in Bekkersdal township, located southwest of Johannesburg, South Africa, early on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

According to police reports, approximately 12 armed suspects arrived in two vehicles and opened fire on patrons before shooting randomly while fleeing the scene. A nationwide manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the suspects. The motive for the attack remains unknown. This incident marks the second mass shooting in South Africa this month.
