Russia announced on December 29, 2025, that it will "revise" its negotiating position following an attempted Ukrainian drone attack on one of the state residences of the Russian President the previous night.
Currently, Russia controls territory in three regions that it does not claim to be part of Russia and has not demanded concessions on from Ukraine. This situation raises the possibility that Russia may start formally demanding more territorial concessions from Ukraine.
